April 2008 In Review
I stepped outside many days this month stoked. After some turmoil over the last year or so, things are smoothing out. Hassles abound, but the routine is sweet and the challenge worth it. Life has been excellent almost everyday and April has been outstanding:
I was Circumcised. tRoy’s annual ride around Sedona was perfect this year with a few good friends and some Bitchen Camaro singletrack.
AZT. I headed out on a trip with Yuri and the guys from Phoenix. It was a 4 day tour from Superior (close to Phoenix, AZ) to Tucson constructed primarily of the AZT. Light weight off road touring is one of the coolesst things I’ve done and the sonoran desert is one of the coolest place in the world, especially in spring. I’m super stoked to have traveled in the middle of it by bike, before it is all gone. Thanks to Yuri and Gordon and Fuan for the route finding. If it was under my authority, we’d be slashing hunks of meat out of the dead one’s asses by now.
New is routine. Every day Ang is already up dealing with monster boy. I stumble out of bed, dig some coffee, and get the trailer linked up to the bike. I sip and then I tow Nathaniel 3ish miles up to his babysitter. From there, I drop the trailer at Debo’s house and head out on a ride “to work”. Everyday, a different trail. Some days, harder. Some days, a schredito around what Tool Shed Timmy calls “The Girlfriend trails”. And already, Nathaniel will be ONE YEAR OLD. And that absolutely amazes me. He’s walked a few yards and seems to mumble incoherent words which I think is bizarre. I dig watching him grow and learn. I now understand what my mother means when she says “they grow up so fast”. Two times the past week, people I like to think if as friends told me that Nathaniel literally means “Gift from God” in Hebrew. How bout that?
The Whiskey. Imagine, this little shit of a guy calls one of his best friends and pinches in a late registration for a 50 mile beat down in Prescott. He sacked up and gave it some stick for the full monty and wound out in 13th place in a race that Floyd Landis Jake Rubelt showed up to. It was one of the most focused races I’ve ever had.
I’m cool with that. I’ll ride high the rest of the year on it.
H is for CHANOCH REDLICH. I met him on Monday. H is from Isreal along with Keren and they are both Professional Cyclists. H is in the states for 6 months racing with other Trek riders; T. Brown, Sue and Etough(sp?). In the two days after we met at the shop, I had the privilege of showing them Randy’s Pickle, then Walnut Canyon and Fisher Point with Travis. All were prime and I think H & Keren had a blast. We motored around some excellent ribbons and I have to say they’re instant friends for me and I hope they make it back to flag soon.
So thats the April round up. I knew it was gonna be good.
