I dunno. I just didn’t have the clarity to make it to the flight. I’m a bit bummed, but with the new kid on the way, there’s been a few marbles that have bounced harder in my head than those which typically provide motivation to ride. What can I say other than “papa gnome needs to get a job.” Ang and I spent the fotp Friday driving around to look for a good area to co-habitate in…to no avail. The only thing we gathered from our trip to the PHX is that we pretty much hate it. Although we are strong individuals, that place sucks the life out of us. It seems that if you are not adapted to massive amounts of time in a car, that place is hard to adapt to. To move there will be one of the hardest things she and I will do.
And since that is the case, why not list the positives of that place. Maybe provide a lil’ unknown inspiration:

  • Trader Joes
  • ?

Ok. so that’s that. What now?

Yuri has some pics posted here on the Flight of the piggies. Enjoy.

go look at my first few blogs.
my laments a/b feenix are the same as yours.
here is what i have learned:
best to find a decent hood east of 7th ave
between downtown and just north of the preserves.
herein you should also look for jobs.
plenty of riding to be found.
some culture to be found too.
    we’ll show you the way.
i hear tempe can be ok if you like planes.
    somo area has no culture.
    welcome to the brown frown.
lemmie know next time and we can go on a two wheel hood tour.
    mandatory stop at sonora brewhouse.

shoot. I am having baby #2 on May 27 2007 and am also on my way outta flagstaff. I did a flag to phx move in 1994-1998 and returned to flag on the eliptical orbit. This time, I think, we are out for good. And it WILL.NOT. be Phx. Whatta hell hole. I’m following jobs to where the jobs are….

Come East, young man! You would simply poop yourself to see how cheap things are out our way. Road riding is unbelievable, mtn. biking is a work in progress, but coming along, bike culture is in the pre-fetal stage but a few a more ex-pat flagstaffricans should help keep the ball rolling! Good luck with everything, you will adapt more easily than you think to parenthood. Golden and I sure have.

My wife and I came to Phx from the Pac-NW by way of a two year stop in NE MO. We’re at 7th St and Indian School and TJ’s is a short ride away, canal is right next door, and the first Fridays bus comes right by here. Clean air, palatable water, and 4.5 million less neighbors would be nice but we can’t have everything now can we. We’ce got an abundance of good peeps what like to ride so that’s ok too.

    yes yes…
it seems a good idea, if not imperative, that a canal be accessable from the pad. That said, it seems like urban assaults are the option wither to get to and/or from a trail, or just because that’s the way it is in the big ol shiddy.

Phoenix just is not THAT bad. Lots of riding. Get a cross bike. Join the THnR group and you will be just fine!

Well, it’s easy to say how much we hate phx and the idea of being a rat in the rat race, but much of that attitude sets you up to fail before you even begin. The attitude is too easy. Every time you say it and think it, YOU LIVE IT! That which you hate you will become. Do you want to raise a child in an environment of discharging contempt? All of the extra-curricular activies that might make your time in the oven more palatable are superficial when compared to the fulfillment you could attain by recognizing what you have to offer and what you can accomplish. The world belongs to you and yours and your sacrafices now will mean so much more later. Sacrifice does not mean regret.
